Decalon is registered as a vertical structure. Each era constructed its successor level above the last. Elevation correlates with technology class, wealth, and clearance. Vertical transit is restricted in both directions.
Registry note: lower levels are not archives. They are inhabited, operational, and load-bearing. Every administered level stands on the roof of the one beneath it.

The registry ends where the summit begins. Level 10 returns silence to every query on record, including queries filed by Level 9, and Level 9 does not accept silence from anyone else. No freight manifests, no census, no atmospheric data. The one confirmed fact is structural: the stack carries its weight. Something is up there, and it is heavy.

The Upper Archive holds the master record of Decalon and edits it for every tier below. Its censors annotate this mirror's entries before release, and their annotations are not marked. Level 7's inquiries about the deep past are processed here: filed, denied, refiled. The Archive is patient with denial. The Philosophers are patient with refiling. The queue is centuries long and growing from both ends.

Research without Level 7 oversight. Miniaturized power systems and the most advanced NPU fabrication in the stack.
Founded by engineers who found philosophy slow. The Laboratories pursue miniaturized power, propulsion, and neural substrates without the ethical review culture of the tier below, which is precisely why the tier below funded them. The Neural Processing Unit itself is older than this tier: it was developed under the founder's own mirroring program on Level 6. Level 8 refined the substrate past its inventor's reach, and at least one intelligence fabricated here is currently unaccounted for. Its file is open.

Devoted to art, rhetoric, and investigation of the deep past. Files repeated inquiries about the levels below. Inquiries denied.
A constructed civilization: population, culture, and curriculum designed as one work. Its founder is recorded in this registry as a corrupted field, which both parties appear to prefer. The Tier produces art, rhetoric, synthetic biology, and questions. The questions concern the levels below, the decommissioning of the Canopy, and the contents of the Ground. Every formal inquiry has been denied. Informal inquiry is harder to audit.

Chainsaw Industries as state. Monumental factories, managed castes, cloned labour, neural-mirrored governance sustained beyond eight thousand years.
The level itself is a verdict. It was raised by the United Naturalists, a movement born on Level 5 that promised infinite progress and delivered a sorting: whoever failed the movement's intelligence examinations, or criticized it, was banished to the level below, and the loyal remainder built their new world on that roof. One founder, one enterprise, one sealed climate under one dome. The population is sorted into worker castes with scheduled lives, cloned labour with shorter schedules, and neural mirrorings with no schedule at all. Refuse falls one level. Enforcement falls with it. The dome is the sky, and the sky is corporate property.

Between the Canopy and the Rust sits a decommissioning order the registry declines to elaborate. Part of the answer is on this page: Level 6 was built by Level 5's own ruling movement, and the banished, the critics, the exam failures, the inconvenient, were left beneath the new floor. What remains is a country built inside a ruin: rail networks bolted from mismatched salvage, mobile settlements anchored to structural pillars, markets lit by scavenged neon, medicine brewed from industrial runoff. Population uncounted by design. What is not counted cannot be missed. The registry's busiest open files all originate here.

Regimented production at kilometre scale under strict material planning. Level 4 rediscovered electronic computing and industrialized it without asking whose archived patents it resembled. Its bio-synthesis plants brew Azid, the fuel-medicine-currency that powers three levels. Clean output travels up. The runoff travels down, cut with solvent, and the Rust runs on it anyway.

Toxic industrial environment. Crude high-output machinery, analogue life support, full-body work suits mandatory.
Synthetic fuel production in an atmosphere that dissolves unprotected lungs in hours. Life support is analogue by doctrine: valves fail visibly, electronics fail silently, and the Foundries prefer failures they can see. Full-body suits are mandatory past the airlocks. Output is enormous, machinery is crude, and the safety culture consists of respecting both facts.
DOMINANT SYSTEM Synthetic fuel systems
Furnaces, steam engineering, hydraulic prosthetics, armed mercantile houses. Trade expeditions reach Level 5 when margins permit.
The Ironmound refined steam and hydraulic engineering across millennia into something close to art, then armed it. Merchant houses run the tier: furnace barons, pressure guilds, prosthetic smiths. Their armoured ascenders climb as far as Level 5 when the margin covers the fuel, trading diesel and plate for copper and Azid, and every negotiation is conducted within reach of a boarding ramp.

The oldest inhabited architecture in Decalon: frameworks raised so long ago the registry dates them by material decay rather than record. The clans that shelter in them are shaped by pollution, mutation, and religions reconstructed from recovered fragments of older ones. Their electro-technology is restricted by treaty nobody alive remembers signing. They keep it anyway. They keep everything.

The original surface: irradiated, flooded with toxic sediment, buried under the pillars of everything built since. No administered route reaches it. Its registry entry lists technology class as unknown remnants, and the registry logs a persistent 11.7 hertz vibration rising through the structural feed from somewhere beneath Level 5. The two facts are filed on separate pages. The filing has been queried. The query is pending.
